and does it work? we bought a bark control beeping collar, its not shock, when she barks, an annoying noise goes off in her ear, suppose to make her stop, but she wont, so we need a shock collar, and im wondering if they work.
She barks 24/7 a big german shepard, we live in an apartmen building and she wakes our neighbors and us up at 6 in the morning. I hate this dog, but my husband loves her.

“I know some of you will tell me I’m torturing my dog, but I didn’t come on to Yahoo! Answers to hear the truth so just validate my mistakes. Thanks.”

Yes,they DO work IF you invest in a GOOD one & USE IT CORRECTLY!!
And..there is the last -resort of surgical de-barking!!! It is NOT “mean” & the dog DOES NOT NOTICE or CARE!Better than you getting EVICTED & SUED & the dog KILLED,right?

These answers are ridiculous. PLEASE do not resort to a choke collar. FIrst it is inhumane, second, how on earth would it stop a dog from barking while you are asleep? They are meant for training a dog on a leash and have nothing to do with barking.
You need to tray a CITRONELLA SPARY COLLAR. I know Multivet makes them and they are about 90% effective while studies show shock collars are only about 50% effective. Having sold A LOT of the spray collars, I have yet to have anyone complain. Everyone who has bought them said that they make a big difference.
The idea of the spray collar is that when the dog barks it sparys lemon scented liquid towards their nose. It is harmless but is a huge deterant to dogs.
Go to http://www.multivet-inter.com to check out their products.
*Note – do not order their products off their website because you can get them cheaper in most stores that sell them.
Good luck.

Please dun torture your dog with this collar even you hate her.
Just tell your husband to teach her to shut up, or you’ll throw her out. I think your husband would do it since he loves her so much. Good luck

Petsafe. When mine was broken they even sent me a new one free. No hassle.

Try the collar on yourself and see if it’s effective first lol. Go and check out http://www.shocktheman.com
Also, the problem is the dog isn’t getting enough stimulation and needs more activity, about three hours a day, a shock collar can certainly turn your GSD into a DANGEROUS dog.

that’s torture.a choke collar is more humane. it’s not the dog it’s the humans that need re-training. you have allowed the dog to dominate the household. you need to learn to be the leader of the pack. check this site this guy is good he has a show on national geographichttp://www.dogpsychologycenter.com/
good luck

I never recommend shock collars. If you have ever touched the electrodes accidently, you would know why. It is very painful.
You might want to look into obedience training for her. I suspect that keeping a dog that size in an apartment is making her very unhappy. Do you walk her every day for an hour a couple of times?
In any case, consult with a trainer or behaviorist. Watch the National Geographic Channel’s “The Dog Whisperer” or google him.

There is NO reason for this to happen. Put that shock collar on and feel the shock it gives off. Hate the dog or not, you won’t use it.
You and your husband need training, not the dog. People like you should not own dogs. You make that evident by saying you hate the dog.
An apartment is no place for a large German Shepard. I think you should find her a good home. Then go purchase a gold fish for a pet. I think your dog will bark no matter what the breed is. You, the
humans are in the wrong here.
I am serious, put the shock collar on you and your husband to try it out. That is animal abuse. I cannot believe they can sell those things.

okay most of you are being silly twits. I have an alskan Malamute… she howls non stop. we have tried many things including professional training, muzzles, and collars. the only thing that has worked is a shock collar. It is not a cruel thing. it hurts the dog less than it hurts you. dogs and humans arent built the same way so testing it on yourself is rather stupid, if you are using them properly the dog is being shocked just enough to get thier attention and cause them minor discomfort… most of the shock is absorbed by the fur and neck ruff. you ppl that say she and her husband ar ein teh wrong for having the dog are idiots, the mal i have is my husband’s, at times i hate her, she destroys everything but she is still our dog. yes they live in an apartment but you have no clue how they ended up there so stop being judgemental pussys anf help her out.
